Only word to summarise this Bandung-based industrial-rock quartet: legends.
Having got together in 1993, KOIL first recorded their own songs independently in 1994. Also renowned for their industrial gothic fashion style, they released their debut EP “From Nowhere” in that same year. In just two years, they were snapped up by record label Project Q and proceeded to unleash their debut album. A year after, they returned to their independent roots and collaborated with various indie musicians while getting involved in many indie projects and compilations.
KOIL released their second album “Megaloblast” in 2001, which was then rereleased in 2003 by record label Alfa Records in 2003 and distributed across the country. The album has since become one of the most important rock albums in the history of Indonesian music. In 2005, their singles “Hiburan Ringan Part I” and “Hiburan Ringan Part II” were included in the soundtrack to the film “12:00am”. In 2007, the band dropped their third album “Blacklight”, from which the single “Semoga Kau Sembuh Part II” was chosen to be part of the soundtrack to the horror flick “Kuntilanak”. “Blacklight” was rereleased in 2010, featuring two new songs and a remix.
