The biggest punk-rock to ever come out of Indonesia, Superman Is Dead are regarded as pioneers of the genre in the country. Consisting of guitarist Bobby Kool, bassist Eka Rock, and drummer/guitarist JRX – they share lead vocal duties – Superman Is Dead were founded in Kuta, Bali, in 1995 through a shared love for Green Day and NOFX. Their striking band name is a wordplay on the song “Silverman Supergun” by grunge kings Stone Temple Pilots, which evolved into Superman Is Dead because they were fascinated with the idea that nobody’s perfect.
In terms of live performances, not many local acts are able to match their aura, intensity, and hard work. Superman Is Dead have shared stages with some of the biggest names in music, including International Noise Conspiracy, NOFX, MXPX, and Hoobastank. They toured Australia in October 2007, encompassing eight cities throughout, while in 2009, the three-piece held a tour of the USA, where they played 16 shows in 16 cities, including 11 Vans Warped Tour shows.
Only one word can sum up Superman Is Dead by now: legends.
